Teaming up With a Sherpa Cinematographer:
From the village Tapting, Solukhumbu, most of the young people end up doing trekking jobs, which are not the best, especially as this is limited to few months a year. Kanuri Sherpa, a local young man was somewhat exceptional that he chose to be in another industry other than trekking. He struggled as a spot boy, and as an assistant to some of the film crews in Kathamndu, and learned to operate a video camera. However, his hard work didn't pay much as this was even worse than a job in trekking! As we wanted to film our project, by producing a documentary-- 'Giving Back' in Jana Priya School, we instantly, invited him to be part of it.
We learned that he had such an interest in becoming a professional cinematographer and it would be such a gift if he would be able to buy a camera of his own! So, we decided to help Kanuri Sherpa in his endeavor on becoming a professional cinematographer. HED project has already bought a camera for Kanuri and we will be working together to produce series of documentaries in the coming days, related to the unseen parts of the Himalaya. These series will be used as part of a promotional campaign for educational and cultural purposes on our project.
