Shaman Festival Documentary Expedition - August 2010
This is part of our documentary series 'Unseen Himalaya' in which we will be working with Sherpa cinematographer Kanuri Sherpa.
The HED Project will be trekking into a remote area of the Lower Everest region in order to film the annual DudhKunda Jutra Shaman ceremony. Shamanism is an ancient cultural heritage which is unique to this area. Shamanism is rarely practiced today as it is a spiritual discipline which is handed down by word of mouth. Because of the lack of young people wanting to study this ancient practice, it will soon vanish as a part of the cultural heritage in the Himalayas.
We will probably be the first “outsiders” to be granted permission to document this unique and highly secretive cultural practice which takes place at the glaciated lake of Dudhkunda at the altitude of 4000 mtr / 13000ft. Expected Expenses $ 5000.00
